Sword Art Online Season 2 Review

It was the Fall of 2012, and it almost seemed as though the world was in a bleak, dark place of temper tantrums and violent outbursts. These were formed due to the nature of a straightforward question: Is/Was Sword Art Online that good or bad? Both sides had convincing arguments for their reasons for disliking or liking the show. But, ultimately, it has now become a staple of how every year, there is that one over-hyped show that defines anime of that year. Now it’s 2014, and we finally have its sequel under the cheers and groans that look forward to or dread it.

The one question remains amidst its conclusion: Is Sword Art Online II better than Sword Art Online? The answer is: yes, kind of?

Love triumphs the human soul in ways we can’t really fathom, and how we can contain it also remains unexplained. Whether it is love in a romantic or friendly fashion, it has always been one of the most sought out themes in stories in every medium imaginable. We are used to the idealistic form of love with numerous tropes and literary devices, but now we’ve grown to appreciate the “realistic” forms of romance. Romance that tries to portray the reality we live in rather than what we hope reality will be. Nana can speak for itself as one anime to be an achievement of perfecting that level of story.

Imagine a Sci-fi epic with the tenacity of becoming something of a psychological journey into the deep unknown. Many movies have captured the feelings of being out in the far reaches of interstellar travel in space rockets, or this case, giant mechas. With the help of talented writers, that dream can become real to prove to the viewers that it can retain that sci-fi glory and be significant to the genre. It takes something like Sidonia no Kishi to show that the genre is far from dead.

Sora no Woto (Sound of the Sky) Review

The inclusion of natural elements to an otherwise stale gimmick of “cute girls in serious circumstances” in an anime met with a mixed reception among casual and hardcore anime fans. These are circumstances that involve a setting, or lore to be specific, that would not have needed to have any “moe” components to make it even more or less meaningful. But we all know why: they want to appeal to what is popular and cash in on it. Unfortunately, that cash grab is more diminutive than fruitful from how seemingly transparent these elements give off in these shows and nowhere near is this evident than in Sora No Woto.
