It’s 2022, and this blog is almost 10 years old (circa 2013) when I started doing this regularly. I’m almost shocked, as some of you might be that I have been keeping this up for so long considering how dead blogging has become for anime or, in general, due to everyone just opening up a youtube channel for these types of things. I’m still on the fence on whether I want to move to that or not because I feel more comfortable writing than talking into a microphone with a script and worry about editing in visuals and so on. I don’t know. It just takes less effort doing this than that. But enough about that, I want to discuss some changes that might benefit me going forward.
You may have noticed that there has been a lack of posts here for almost the entirety of 2021. That isn’t for lack of interest in writing about anime, although that is a 1/3rd reason why that is the case. The biggest reason is that life has been hectic in terms of work and life balance. Whenever I come home from my two jobs, I’m burnt out, tired, and not feeling awake enough to sit and watch anything I want. It makes doing the marathoning near the end of the year a chore to do when I procrastinated on it for too long. It can just be because I’m lazy, and the truth is told, that is mainly the reason. I’m also someone who plays games, watches films on top of anime, and on occasion reads a book or two when I have the spiritual urge to do it. If you wondering how my real-life social life is to do all that, I assure you it’s almost non-existent.
So what are the changes that I have planned for this year and the ensuing future? Well, number one, I’m going to cutting down on my watched new anime almost in half. The biggest reason for this is that it helps keep the clutter down, and I’ll have enough time to focus more on older shows that I can finally get around to that have been on my to-do list for so long. I want specifically tackle anime from the 90s this year to bask in the nostalgia of that whole era of anime that started the wave of anime becoming popular in the west onto the new millennium.
The other change is going to be the reviews. Will there be more reviews this year? That’s still going to be up in the air a little. Obviously, because there was literally no review written last year, more than zero reviews will be posted. It wasn’t just because of me being super busy last year. It was also because there wasn’t a lot of anime worth writing a review about. And the ones that were, there wasn’t anything new I could say about it that every other person praising it or trashing it for the dumpster fire that it was (and there was a ton of that last year). I thought of this for fear of plagiarizing other reviewers. Also, by the time I was done with the anime, time had already passed into the new season because I typically wait until a show is done to finally watch it. One of those scenarios where I need to be more motivated and write more to feel envigorated like I was back then.
So be on the lookout for reviews of new anime and anime of the past. It will still be a situation where only if the anime has anything interesting about it that deems worthy enough of a review, so don’t expect a review every week or so. Hell, I might even review the occasional hentai here if I know of one that is reviewable to tie it all together.
I like to think of this as a New Years Resolution. It’s been on the back of my mind for a while, and I wanted to get it off my chest and put it on the record on here as a motivator. I hope this will clear out any suspicion that I might retire or whatever. That won’t happen any time soon, I promise. Good night!
