Best Anime of 2014!

It is now the passing of another year and time for every anime critic’s favorite part of the year (not really), listing off the best and worst anime this year! Overall, this year has actually been a little bit of a step up compared to 2013. Wouldn’t necessarily call it a magnificent outing, but there have been some significant shows that are worthy of being crowned best all year round. Most of the categories haven’t changed since 2013’s list, with only a few minor iterations to fit 2014 more closely and decided to do only one runner up rather than two in each category.

Also keep this in mind: These are shows that have started and ended in 2014. Meaning, there are shows that may have started in 2013 but still continued on until after the Winter season of 2014 and will be featured on here. Boobies and butts make the universe a pretty awesome place to exist in. How is this so? Just ask Dandy himself, and he could tell you all about it in glorious enthusiasm. This Dandy I speak of is named Space Dandy. Imagine if you mixed the best of western and eastern humor in TV animation shows and combined them into one neat package. That should tell you that Space Dandy destines to be different and fresh without making an overly big deal about it. Regardless, you certainly can’t beat this hot, fun garbage series with other garbage entertainment, anime or otherwise.

Flourishing aesthetics come a long way in holding a show up from just being average or forgettable. Sometimes loving a show for its robust and energetic personality can be a blessing and a curse. Then again, it all comes down to the show’s purposeful existence to help distinguish how an anime should be viewed. It wants to be a fun and stupid show with the only intention of being provocative or a thought-provoking show with a deep narrative. Now that shouldn’t be said to excuse it entirely on the numerous faults it might have, but with a show like No Game No Life, it is one of the instances where you can’t help but admire its silliness.
