The quote above sums up the entire tone of the whole show. It’s genuine and fun to its very core. Like Hentai Ouji, anime comedies that rely heavily on moe or cute girls as their driving force are overly contrived of tired old gags that aren’t truly funny and come across as annoying than anything else. However, some shows are exceptions to this, and Hentai Ouji is one of these and is by far the best one to come out in the last year or two.

Hataraku Maou-sama! Review

We can all agree that most comedies in recent anime seasons have always tried to cling to similar situations or settings. The most obvious one is school comedy shows. You never get to see writers try to develop different kinds of circumstances that could be brilliant. But once they do, it usually comes off either decent or just plain forgettable. It’s not often we get a show like Hataraku Maou-sama that is light-hearted and fun and boasts some of the best comedy writing in an anime I’ve seen yet this year.

Date A Live Review

Quality entertainment is one thing in any anime show that has ever existed, whether it’s supposed to be the intention or if it was unintentional. With that in mind, many people try to conclude that shows like Date A Live are why anime has gone downhill in recent years because it has officially run out of ideas on what to do with any story. It doesn’t matter how well they tell it, just how it entertains the masses. I find this type of thinking to be overly cynical and silly because this isn’t exactly a new way of thinking. For years, anime studios have put filler shows in season slots since the beginning of anime; whether they were all bad or good is debatable by today’s standards. Nowadays, these harem shows are the best way to churn out these kinds of filler slots to appeal to the casual fan base who like to watch girls flaunt over one guy in comedic ways.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume Review

I’m not going to lie, this show is a weird one to talk about. Not because of the actual premise, although it does add a little to it, but on the way it’s structured. It reminded me of my childhood shows with three separate story arcs that had a basic theme. With an anime plot involving a cute squid girl trying to invade the entire planet by herself only to be undermined by many people who own a food court near a beach, you’d think that would speak of random hijinks that will only appeal to prepubescent girls. Fortunately, there can be some merits here that could appeal to any age group.
