School’s in Session!

Well it’s that time of year when college students begin their Fall semester, including myself. With that said, will there be less reviews in the following months until December? This will be most likely the case seeing how I typically get overwhelmed with schoolwork and deadlines for tests here and there. Just so we’re clear, the times when I have school are Late August to Early December for the fall and Early January to Early May for spring, so that everyone will know when I generally have school to go to. There are times when I need to go to school for the Summer, but those are generally less work since you could at least do one class if you wanted to. So this is just a heads up announcement so that my readers will be informed about the following months not being loaded with new reviews as much. Who knows, there might not be that many new schoolwork in this semester but that is less likely the case. Regardless, hope everyone is ready for school to start and good luck!

Science Fiction has come a long way from stories involving the unknown reaches of space by the works of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells to stories that draw social implications of our society from famed authors George Orwell and Phillip K. Dick. There is little doubt that anime productions have tackled a lot beneath the limits of the genre ranging from Space Opera to Cyberpunk. One series that is often considered one of the most popular in the anime Sci-fi genre is Ghost in the Shell. After the movie’s success, directed by celebrated director Mamoru Oshii, we now have Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, but this time without Mamoru Oshii involved with the production. Considering how well Oshii directed Ghost in the Shell, people were skeptical about whether Stand Alone Complex could get the best out of the movie in quality storytelling and animation. Long story short, it did almost every aspect correctly. Continue reading

Happy Birthday to Me!

Just thought I post this to not only celebrate my time of birthday in August 16th but to announce some news later on this month. I will be posting a review later on in the weekend around Sunday hopefully. But for the time being, I will be celebrating with food and cute 2D girls!

Black Lagoon Review

With a genre that deals with many action set-pieces, a show of this specific genre is usually bogged down into mindless entertainment territory with absolutely no substance to it at all. There have been in the past many action films and TV shows that have shown to become competent in the history of film-making, examples in mind are the works of John Woo, Michael Mann, and Quentin Tarantino. But what if I told you that there is an anime show that encompasses everything that is great about those three directors and succeeds on every possible level? The show in question is Black Lagoon, a show that showcases a blend of mindless Hollywood action and juvenile humor in the best possible sense of the word juvenile. Continue reading

RIP Nakamura Ryuutaro

1955 – 2013

It doesn’t happen as often for us fans of anime to remember someone who was responsible for creating our favorite shows. Serial Experiments Lain to this day remains as one of my favorite anime of all time and it really hit me when the news broke out about the Director and Original Creator of that show passed away after months of dealing with an illness. The man has left only a handful of notable shows in his entire career, such as Kino’s Journey and Ghost Hound. It is sad to see a man who has left us at only half of his life span. What makes this even tragic is what will become of his announced work Despera, whether it will be indefinitely cancelled or continue to see the light under Abe Yoshitoshi’s direction. Regardless, I will always remember the man for making very innovative shows that pushed the boundaries of what anime could do at the time. RIP
