Aria the Origination Review

ARIAPS2b

All things eventually have to end, especially with series that have left a mark on many people. One series that has cemented itself as the king of accomplishing this for many is the Aria series. What many consider the series’s magnum opus, Aria the Origination is the last chapter in the anime adaptation of the beloved manga. As you might figure out, it is just about as glamoured with gorgeous music, cheerful characters, and dramatic optimism as one can handle. Despite all of the beautiful aspects of the series, there’s still that one question that has bugged me each season: Why am I not smiling?

Nisekoi Review

It is that time of the season again. Where that legendary anime studio that every anime fan and their mother knows the name of, Shaft, comes with another adaptation where they put their technical chops into. Regardless of whatever manga or light novel they want to adapt, especially when Akiyuki Shinbo is the head of the production, they always want to shift their spin to make it their unique vision. The results are either really good or very mediocre. Thankfully, Shaft’s recent show, Nisekoi, is one of those on their filmography that deserves to be on the firmer side of the spectrum.

The World God Only Knows Review

There comes that one manga you find at the corner of your eye to where you can enjoy it whether you like the genre it consists of or not, all in the essence of parody and satire. It can be a challenging comedic flavor to pull off correctly. Writers have to analyze the aspects of the things they are trying to parody in the first place, but they have to make all of the things that make good comedy work. These things include great comedic timing, sharp jokes that don’t feel forced, and excellent pacing in-between comedy segments. It can be quite a difficult task for a manga focused on comedy, but luckily with manga, you can go buck wild with the stroke of your drawing utensil and think of what works best. It takes a man like Tamiki Wakaki to make it seem like an absolute cakewalk to envision a perfect parody with The World God Only Knows.

Cowboy Bebop Review

There’s nothing quite like it when you come off an anime and realize how much it has built itself as this vital piece of art that has since transcended its ever-present influence on other mediums. This particular show, named Cowboy Bebop, definitely lived up to the legacy it deserves of being the pinnacle of late ’90s anime that would influence a wide variety of anime leading up to the new millennium. Even with that being said, that’s not to say that Cowboy Bebop has its fair share of hiccups.

One Year Anniversary!

Now here’s something that I never would’ve thought I would write about since I started this blog. And to think it was all based on just some dare that I made with some people I know who said that it would be a great idea to make one and to be a “full-time critic”, what ever that might mean to people. Did I ever wanted this to take off anywhere? Definitely not, I only wanted to make this to express myself and better myself as a writer, as you can clearly see from the evolution of my earlier reviews to my recent ones. Not to say that this blog is one of the most popular anime blogs ever, which in-of-itself doesn’t hold much since anime blogging is dying as of late. Nevertheless I still enjoy doing what I’m doing and I always love it when people are reading them and leaving comments. I hope to make people have a distinct look on a medium that has been a lack of a down-to-earth critic who has no ill-will for any trope or cliche that he sees as offensive or too non-western for his taste. So here’s hoping for a good next four years so I can make this into a five-year anniversary for this blog!
